Whew, one more day of work, then it is my weekend. I am not sure why work wiped me out so much this week, I am just hoping tomorrow goes by quickly so I can get stuff done. (Laundry and cleaning, ohhhhh boyyyyy.)
Enough complaining from me, though! I am mostly excited about my days off so I can work on my costumes and hang out with people.
I know I am obsessed with working on my costumes lately, and my friends are probably getting sick of hearing about them. >_< I am not entirely sure if this is one of those hobbies I will get tired of eventually, but if it is, I doubt it will be any time soon, so uh, sorry in advance? I feel like I am only just starting to make worth-while costumes, and I still have a long way to go! Making costumes for conventions is a lot different than costuming for the stage in high school! (Speaking of which, it has been 5 years since then, and over a year since I was done with college. Dear lord, where has the time gone?)
Ok, I apparently need to update my LiveJournal or something, since I usually like to keep my dA journal more concise and less personal, but eh, I guess it doesn't really matter. I seriously can't keep up with all the sites I have accounts on anyway.
On to the cosplay!
I am pretty happy with my Rose (Street Fighter) costume so far. The scarf is a wired monstrosity that can basically be made to look like it is floating above my shoulders or at the ends depending on how I am wearing it. It was kind of a pain in the arse, but I learned a lot and can definitely make it better the next time I need to so something similar. I bought purple tights and made an undershirt to match, and I have the dress pinned and ready to be sewn. (I need to get a dress-form at some point, I am starting to get tired of pinning things onto myself. >_<) I am a little apprehensive about styling the wig, (Which I still need to order...) but I'll figure it out somehow.
Our group at PAX should be great; we have Rose, Chun-li, two versions of Sakura, Vega, Guy and maybe a Cammy. I am super excited! I have never been part of a cosplay group of more than two people before. I'd be excited for PAX even without the costumes, of course, but it just makes me that much more excited.
If I get Rose done in time, I might wear it for BRUcon, too, especially since some of the others might be there with their SF costumes, too. Though I am not playing as Rose in the tournament. No sir.
Except ECCC, I don't go to any conventions between PAX and SakuraCon, and as a result I have 6 costumes I want to do for SakuraCon in 2011... I could drop the old ones, though. The two main ones I am working on are Suzuka from Angelic layer, (I haven't started, but I have definite plans for how I am going make it) and Caroline/Yukari from Paradise Kiss in her Grand Prix dress. (The one that's basically a huge blue ball gown with roses) I am looking forward to the ParaKiss cosplay soooooo much! It's definitely the most ambitious thing I have attempted yet, which is why I am starting early. So far, I have the roses, (though I need to lighten them a bit) the underskirt, (which I might try to make even more huge... >_<) and part of the butterfly ring. (Beads and wire, ftw. Hopefully I can make it look decent!)
When I bought the underskirt, I had to walk around in downtown Olympia for a while with it, and people kept thinking I was getting married because it really does look like a wedding dress when all bunched up. It was pretty amusing. (And I am glad KikuNunki was with me, or I'd have had no one to joke about it with!)
In addition to those, I really would love to wear my Elika (Prince of Persia 4) costume again, but only if I can find a Prince! I also think it would be fun to wear my Kanzeon Bosatsu (Saiyuki) costume again and I can't bear the thought of not having a Team Rocket related cosplay of some sort, but I may have to just deal with it, and drop those, because I'd really rather wear my main costumes for close to a full day each. I also want to do a Peep-inspired Lolita costume, since the con always falls on Easter just to be silly, but we shall see!
Yikes, long hyper-sounding entry at all?

Maybe not actually gone forever
I like to do this thing where I abandon websites for a decade, then come back, as I recently did with Tumblr. (So maybe there's hope of me actively using Facebook again in like six years?) I honestly don't do much that's worth posting here anymore, but I still do a couple cosplays a year, and knit and crochet a lot. That said, I got better at making costumes in the time I wasn't posting here, and have many I can add, so I will probably do that. It is certainly weird to look back at my convention posts here from so long ago. Conventions and cosplay were my life for quite a while, there was even a year I went to conventions in three different countries, and I actually got to live my dream I used to joke about, of being a booth babe for Koei Tecmo. I have so many wonderful memories, and I still love all of my convention friends, though in recent years I have slowed down a bit. (I suppose the pandemic did that to us all) Anything else I make any more tends to be nice enough sweaters and
PAX + Kumoricon + Cosplay + Sadness
I've been busy lately working on my costume and part of a friend's for PAX (Penny Arcade Expo), which is in a little over a week in Seattle. He's being Lu Xun, and I am being Sun Shang Xiang, both from Dynasty Warriors 7. This is kind of a dream costume for me, because I love Dynasty Warriors so much, even from before I was really into video games or conventions. Sun Shang Xiang became my favorite just because she was the only girl that started out unlocked in Dynasty Warriors 3. Kinda silly, but I still like her. (And somewhere along the line I started liking everyone in Wu too much, too.)
I have a good chunk of my costume done. I can't say
Yay, I got tagged!
Tagged by: ~iRaikiri (https://www.deviantart.com/iraikiri)
Rules:
1→You must post these rules.
2→Each tagged person must post 10 things about themselves on their journal.
3→You have to choose and tag 10 people and post their icons on the same journal.
4→Go to their pages and tell them you tagged them.
5→No tag backs.
6→No crap in the tagging section about "you are tagged if you read this". You legitimately have to tag ten people.
1) Despite the fact that I love to make costumes, I don't really like sewing. (But I obviously do it a lot!)
2) I have a degree in computer programming, though I don't do much programming anymore.

Long entry? Sure, but you're doing what sounds to be a labor of something you treasure. Now it sounds like you're doing team cosplay and that's going up another level. Enjoy!
